How much should you budget for a Galapagos package?

Start with the full trip price, then compare the hotels and activities. These are the same planning ranges used for our suggested tours, so you can explore the route behind each budget.

Package price or price per day?

Compare the package total first. Dividing it by the itinerary length gives an average daily budget, not a daily excursion rate: arrival and departure days are part of that length, and expensive boat outings are spread across the total.

For example, a hypothetical USD 2,400 eight-day package averages USD 300 per person per calendar day. That calculation does not mean every day includes USD 300 of activities, or that an extra night costs the same amount. Ask for the price of the actual extension you want.

Compare what you actually receive

A day that suggests exploring on your own is different from a booked guided excursion. Likewise, a shared day boat and a private service are different products even when they visit a similar area.

Our proposals specify the included services and exclusions before you decide. An inquiry does not reserve a departure or lock a price. If you want a particular excursion or hotel, include it in your first message so its availability and effect on the budget can be checked.

Build the budget in separate parts

Start with the land-based package without flights. Then add anything excluded from that package. Keep international and mainland–Galapagos flights on their own lines so you can compare itineraries without changing the meaning of the price. 1. Land-based proposal: the quoted amount for your room arrangement, duration and services.
2. Island expenses outside the proposal: entry and transit requirements, local fees, meals or equipment that are not included.
3. Flights: international travel and the mainland–Galapagos connection, priced separately.
4. Personal choices: extra activities, drinks, souvenirs or upgrades you decide to add.

Entry charges vary by visitor category. Check the National Park’s official visitor information when calculating your total rather than assuming one amount applies to every adult and child.

For two travelers, multiply a correctly matched per-person proposal by two before adding excluded expenses. For a family, request the actual family total; room configurations and children’s services may not follow a simple adult-price multiplier.

Galapagos on a budget: where to save

If the first proposal is above your budget, identify the experiences you would most regret removing. Discuss the remaining choices in order: hotel category, number of island changes, private versus shared services, and the balance of guided and independent time.

Do not automatically remove a night while keeping every activity. That can make the trip busier without solving the cost of its main services. A simpler route may be a more useful alternative. Our trip-length guide explains the trade-offs between one, two and three bases.

Pay attention to the services that make the plan work: realistic transfers, suitable activity arrangements and a room that fits your travelers. Our accommodation guide helps you describe the comfort you want without relying entirely on a category label.

There is also no need to assume that tailor-made means fully private. A personalized itinerary can include shared excursions. The important point is to know which services you are choosing.

What to send for a useful first quote

Use the budget selector in our inquiry form to share an approximate amount per person in USD, excluding flights. Choose “Help me decide” if you want to compare options. The ranges are planning preferences, not advertised package prices.

Add your dates, number of travelers, children’s ages where applicable, desired duration and preferred hotel style. If you already have flights, mention the arrival and departure islands in your message. If the dates are flexible, explain how much flexibility you have.
